It's on the roadmap for XH 1.7 -- still not yet opened for voting.
svasti wrote:So starting with 1.7 CMSimple_XH requires at least PHP 5.2 .... correct? Support for 1.6.x will continue till end of 2015?
I'm in favor of that (maybe supporting 1.6.x until summer 2015 is sufficient, depending on the release date of 1.7), but nothing has been decided yet. See also http://cmsimpleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=7817.

My, that's getting big... didn't realise we are already on the 3rd page for 1.7

Well, several items have been moved from the 1.6 roadmap. However, 1.6.3 is even bigger (wrt. the number of items).

If in doubt use the search functionality (works only for the current roadmap, unfortunately).

JFTR: the documentation for PHP 4 has been removed from the main manual; for instance, see mkdir() where the Changelog is missing completely; compare that to the July 1st version. Obviously, it's getting harder to support PHP 4.

I like to extend this proposal insofar that we shouldn't support PHP 7 for XH < 1.7. Recently, a new RFC to remove PHP 4 constructors has been put under discussion, and while it would be possible to work around that issue, if the RFC will be accepted, it seems to me that keeping a common codebase for PHP 4.3 - 7.x is not worth the trouble.

A lot of time has passed since I started the thread, and after reconsideration I suggest the following vote: lift the minimum PHP requirements to 5.3.0. The voting options would have the following meaning:
  • "now": do that for XH 1.7
  • "later": lift the requirements to PHP 5.2.0 for XH 1.7
  • "never": stick with PHP 4.3.0 or a version below PHP 5.2.0 for XH 1.7 (the details would require another vote)
Please consider, that XH 1.7 will not be released tomorrow, that XH 1.6 may still be supported some time after the release of 1.7, and that we (IMO) would have to stick with the chosen minimum requirement during the support time of XH 1.7.
