takes a while after login

Post by bastingse » Wed Feb 25, 2015 4:40 pm

Almost every cmsimple installation i have made recently (XH 1.6 or so) is giving problems after login. Soon as i log in on a website then, after the first click i do it takes 10 to 20 seconds before i proceed to that action. No matter if i click on a page to edit or go to (for example) a plugin.... it always takes that long. It only happens after i login, after that 10 or 20 seconds all is functional normal.

When i go to a very old installation: CMSimple 2.9 Special Edition
Or this version CMSimple_XH 1.1 then all is okay, no problems at all!

Um... Can you give me the password for one such installation (ideally a test installation)? I'd like to have a closer look at it.

Thanks.

What actually happens on login is that the page takes so long to load (see the progress bar of the browser); it's not the next page after login that really takes so long. Anyhow, what happens: directly after login the hi_UpdateCheck plugin triggers a "quick check" (to see if any updates are available). Apparently, this is failing for some not yet analyzed reason, and that seems to block further processing.

The main issue is to find out why the update check fails for several plugins (you can see that it fails under Plugins -> Hi_updatecheck -> Zoek voor updates). Apparently, the failing checks are related to a certain server, where Holgers plugin infos and the CMSimple_XH version info are hosted.

A nice improvement would be to avoid the excessive time it takes when an update check fails.

I'll contact Holger.

As a quick fix, you can deactivate the hi_updatecheck plugin under Instellingen -> CMS -> Plugins -> disabled. Just enter "hi_updatecheck" there.

Christoph, thanks very very much for clear this problem for me!! For days (actually few weeks already) i was thinking something went wrong on my server.
Now i will disable the hi_updatecheck function.

Now i wonder: am i the only one with this problem??? Nobody is complaining here...... So if i am the only one... can it be that my ip is blocked on Holger's server? I remember Holger ask me to change my mailadrress on the forum cause it is giving errors.

Anyway, thanks Christoph... you made my day today !!!

Hmm, AFAIK there's no blocking from my server :? . I'll try to check the logs ASAP.
About your mail address: when the board tries to send a notification to you, it'll always fail with the following message:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of
its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address
failed:

"info@bastingswebdesign.nl":

So I thought you've changed your mailaddress or domain...

Strange. When I do nslookup -type=MX bastingswebdesign.nl ns1.deziweb.com the answer is:
Server: obrien.deziweb.com
Address: 91.198.106.76

bastingswebdesign.nl MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = 01.mx.mail-scanner.eu
bastingswebdesign.nl MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = 02.mx.mail-scanner.eu
Appears to be fine.

Maybe not a permanent problem?

Indeed! Just checked again, and got a DNS timeout!
