CMSimple speed

Post by bca » Thu Nov 19, 2015 12:39 pm

Hi
I have 10 sites running CMSimple. Four are running CMSimple_XH 1.6.x and take at least 20 seconds on average to show the first page. the other sites are running variants of CMSimple_XH 1.5.x and they all load within 4 seconds.

My ISP says it doesnt seem to be them causing the problem. Could it be something in CMSimple_XH 1.6.x? Do others see the same thing?

Hi B.,

without URLs to the sites, we can only guess...

I am not a specialist in terms of page speed, but I've watched the Webpages with the Chrome Dev-Tools (Network and Audits). So you see, what you could possibly still optimize.

For comparison, you can even test the page http://www.cmsimple-xh.org/, there should appear a charging time of under 400ms. A problem of CMSimple_XH 1.6.7 it so doesn't seem to be.

Additionally, concerning your ISP:
yesterday and today Rex Swain wrote:Maximum execution time of 15 seconds exceeded!
Look here and check it at different times.

Hi B,

sorry for my late response.

First of all, I'm not aware about such speed issues with XH and the plugins you're using on the two pages -- but I may be wrong of course.

I've checked your pages frequently with disabled cache and the response-times were in most cases horrible slow. Sometimes I have to wait 30 to 40 seconds for the initial request, but then all the assets are loading normal/fast. So I've searched for other domains running under the same IP. I've fond around 50 other domains with the same IP as videopoint.co.uk (which does not mean that they're really all installed at the same machine). I've tested a few of those domains but it seems that there are not such speed problems. At this point, I was not longer sure where to search for the problem.
But on last Friday morning (around 10:00 AM) I've visited both pages again (with disabled cache) and this time loading speed was ok (around two and a half and three seconds for the complete Page with all assets).
I've made screenshots for both domains. You can see the loading time in the lower right corner of the screenshot.

So I think it's correct to say it's a performance problem with your ISP because I can not imagine that there's a daytime - depending speed - bug in XH  .

BTW: Why don't you put a copy of one of those pages for testing to another server. You can give for example this freehoster a try: http://www.bplaced.net/.

Hi Holger et al
Thanks for that and sorry for MY slow response :D

I didnt think it could be CMSimple as I have a site at another ISP where it loads a lot faster.
I have just been in touch with my ISP and he said "nothing wrong at my end". Which is what I was expecting. When I asked him to look at the site through pingdom he agreed there "might" be a problem and referred it to their second line support. Now I am waiting for their response.
I did notice that both site are responding quicker now so maybe they tweaked something.
I also noticed a lot of external redirect requests which were originating from the AllShare service. I removed this and it has speeded up a bit more.
Hopefully it will remain faster. I'll await the reply from the ISP support and let you know.
I am glad it wasnt down to CMSimple.

thanks for your help

B
