Post by Tata » Wed Mar 28, 2012 7:54 pm

Hi, community!
I just finished translation of core files and XH_plugins (I hope all actual version - or at least those I had found).
Feel free to use it.

Oops! Calendar shall yet be translated completely. Will take a while :-(

It's no shame to ask for an answer if all efforts failed.
But it's awful to ask without any effort to find the answer yourself.

Hi Martin,

wow! :o I'm impressed -- that must have been a lot of work!

But now two question are arising:
  • How can users be made aware of this language pack compilation? Should it be linked on http://www.cmsimple.sk/?Na_stiahnutie:Jazykove_baliky? Should this post be made sticky? (perhaps in a new subforum?)
  • Should the plugin developers include the respective translations to their plugins too? IMO yes, at least for now. In the long run I'm still dreaming of an extension repository and perhaps even the possibility to install the translations from CMSimple's back-end (maybe even automatically, if the language file is missing from the installation)

Maybe forum admin sees Top Language Forum CMSmple visit - and accordingly could issue a challenge to create a language pack. For example, if visitors are more than 30%, is the translation for your attention. The second question is how to translate the author learns about a new version of the plugin or cmsimple?

EDIT
The second option would be to insert the most widespread language packs directly on CMSimle and plugins (it was rejection). Author of the new version would then just added new language to a string (Frank plugin tested on "Calendar" and it was perfect).
But it is a broader discussion.

Hi Josef,
oldnema wrote:and accordingly could issue a challenge to create a language pack. For example, if visitors are more than 30%, is the translation for your attention
That's a nice idea :) -- but I doubt that the forum records the languages (or countries) of the visitors. OTOH: have a look at CMSimple_XH downloads broken down by country -- unfortunately it seems that only the downloads from Germany reach more than 10%.
oldnema wrote:The second question is how to translate the author learns about a new version of the plugin or cmsimple?
A very good question, indeed :!: Would an RSS feed be a viable solution? There's one available for my plugins: http://3-magi.net/plugins/yanp/data/feed-en.xml

Christoph

PS: I've just seen your EDIT.
oldnema wrote:The second option would be to insert the most widespread language packs directly on CMSimle and plugins
But how should the "most widespread" languages be defined? The 5 (or 10) most widespread languages? Or any language that has a share of more than a certain percentage (e.g. 5%)?

Are you talking about the new default.php files? This is only possible from CMSimple_XH 1.5 on.

And to explain the situation from the view of a plugin developer: it's no problem to include additional language files in the first place. But everytime a new language string has to be added, the language files are no more up to date (well, default.php alleviates this). But another problem remains: once a stable version is released any new language files would cause a new release of the plugin (no changes, but the new language file).

The Communists have taught us 40 years to give a "socialist commitment" - I'll do the same translation, all versions of the month of March the 2012th.
P.S.
I do not know how Frank (svasti) did. but after each update my plugin file send xx_lang where new items were added to the translation. This system worked.

Hi Josef,

I'd rather like to avoid political beliefs from software development, but some "social commitment" is really a nice gesture (if it's not mistaken as self-sacrifice!). If you are willing to translate all those plugins, your effort is warmly welcome (but consider to spare out my alpha plugins -- these might change tremendously!).

I don't know exactly either. But perhaps he used default.php; this is explained on http://www.cmsimple-xh.com/wiki/doku.ph ... e_defaults (I hope it's understandable)

Christoph

PS: Many thanks to you, Tata, and all other translators of CMSimple_XH! IMO your efforts are a very important part of the development of this fine CMS!

Thinking about, I really see as the most practic way a section "LanguagePacks" here in forum and evtl. on Wiki too. Then evrything concerning the translations would be addressed in this section. Comments to announced translations (typos, wrong expressions, reccommendation to improvements or changes) etc. The first link I click entering this forum is "View new posts"....
And I strongly reccomend using of Translator plugin to all translators. It makes things very simple. The only I miss a little in its backend is the option "Select All/Deselect All".
Have a nice day.
EDIT 29.3.2012: Calendar translation ready included into the packet.

Maybe that's the best solution for now. So if Holger agrees, it might perhaps go to the "THIRD PARTY AREA".

Of course a reasonable request! I've put that on my TODO list.

No problem.

Maybe you will give me some hints for the detailed forum-description and, if useful, for some forum rules.

I think a description like:
Translations

Moderator: Tata
should be ok.

@Tata: would you do the moderation of that section ;) :?:
