@Christoph, it might not be clear what headings the user should use for best SEO could be user defined, i.e. menulevel1 –> <h1>, menulevel2 –> <h2> etc, There could be a list which the user could change if he wants to. IMO that's not the right place for making changes to anything else than pagedata....
