Minor bug: invalid external link

Post by TerryS » Sat Jan 28, 2012 12:26 am

Oops! Sorry, I forgot to include this: CMSimple_XH 1.5.1 03.01.2012
I probably shouldn't do this when I'm tired...time to go to bed!

  1. I get this error when I click "Validate links":

    Code: Select all

    Errors:
        Link: www.cmsimple-xh.com »
        Link target: http://www.cmsimple-xh.com/?CMSimple_XH:Terms_of_licence
Error: faulty external Link, page not reachable.
        Returned http status code: 404
Also, if I paste the link in my browser, I get the 404 Page Not Found.

It needs a capital "L" to work properly:
    http://www.cmsimple-xh.com/?CMSimple_XH ... of_Licence
  2. By the way, it is misspelled. It should be "license" but I suppose changing the link would cause confusion. Perhaps this could be fixed in the text, though?

Hi Terry,

So at least it's no bug in the link checker. Thanks for reporting this issue -- it will be fixed in the next release.

Well, if we change it to "license", probably an Englishman would complain, that's it's mispelled. ;) It's hard to decide, if cmsimple-xh.com should be written in British or American English. As it's a .com domain, probably the latter would be more appropriate. But at least for me (I'm not the primary maintainer of cmsimple-xh.com though) it's very difficult to differenciate between American and British English: in school I learned British (Oxford) English, but later on I mostly read and heard American English. So often I don't even know, which is which.

The cleanest solution might be to register cmsimple-xh.co.uk too, setting up a Brititsh English version there and changing cmsimple-xh.com to American English. But this will take some additional effort, which could otherwise be spend to improving the overall documentation. So perhaps it's OK, if we stick with the mix of British and American English on cmsimple-xh.com for now (search for "license" and "licence": you'll find both spellings ;))
