What is CMSimple?

Post by wosee » Mon May 26, 2008 1:48 pm

CMSimple is a free content management system. It aims to be simple, small and fast. As it is written in PHP it runs on Linux/Apache servers, or on Win32 with Apache or IIS.

CMSimple does not need a database as it writes page data directly to a HTML file on the web server. This simplifies installation and backups, and also makes CMSimple a low cost option on web hosts which charge extra for database access. Config files and language files are also saved in txt format.

I guess that part of the Wikipedia article is enough to explain "What is CMSimple?"

The article is absolutely okay but that paragraph could be an input for the FAQ Forum. I guess there is something planned like this and it would not make much sense to copy the whole Wikipedia article. Maybe there's already someone working on topics for that section, I don't know.

I just started this topic because someone postet the following list, and I'd reckon that it would be better to answer the questions as fast as possible.

  • Why are there three plugin loaders?
  • Are there any reference sites?

wosee,

your list is absolutely necessary and should be answered soon

the first questions are answered many times already, like a mantra or a rosary ...

the answers should be answered here as sticky posting and in the wiki, for sure!

I would like to add the following question:

- Will the commercial and the free versions of CMSimple stay close together or is this the initial stage of a fork?

- Will the communities split?

Beate

who admits not to be happy at all about the tendency toward stronger commercialisation of CMSimple. IMHO it would be better to have a completly open code base, one single user community and of course the possibility to offer commercial support. Analogy: drupal, especially in its earlier days. CMSimple is designed as an entry level product (that's its strength), and as such it will more or less stay in its niche.

I'll get my magic crystal ball to answer your questions... Seriously, nobody knows what will happen. However, Harteg already signed up at cmsimpleforum.com. His joining can be a bridge between the open and the commercial CMSimple.
