CMSimple 3.2 is out

Post by Connie » Sat Jun 21, 2008 7:48 pm

Peter just published the new release CMSimple 3.2 for download at cmsimple.com
you can download in all three license-versions there
It comes without plugins

Peter announces it like this:
CMSimple 3.2 is basically same as 3.1 with the security fix from June 1. 2008.

Several language codes have been changed for language/flag files to comply to ISO 639-1 Language Codes. All languages available from new download form, and all languages have flags. Licence text in files changed.
He also modified the download: it is a form where you have to define the default language
additionally you can download other languagefiles as well

but there is no chance to download additional language files separately, if you don't realize that you must download other language files with the first download (as I did ,...) you must download a second time the complete package with all language files you might need

Peter, that is no clever way, please offer a separate download of language files !

Now I installed the armenian language pack and as I am not a member of that excellent support forum at cmsimple.com, I hope Peter will read my info here:

Peter, it is no good idea to offer language packs where you just enter the standard-english-content

if you do so, you should at least use UTF-8 in the content form

armenian is not at all usable with

Code: Select all

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1">
and as not everybody is experienced with codepages, many people will be horrified by the result when they add a language like this and open the content

that is not good ;=)

Connie - thanx for feedback. Actually I think this will save a lot of beginners a lot of work to figure out which languages are available (very often I do get completely new translations of already translated languages, because the user didn't get to the language files) and also how it is set up. It is easy to pull out another language from a 2nd download, but if it seems to become a major problem, I'll have to make a 'only language' download.

Regarding the armenian - yes, it does look silly, but I do not intend to use a lot of time on translating some content, which is going to be deleted anyway.

Peter,

you must not translate anything, just use UTF-8 and everybody will understand that you do not offer armenian text, but at least readable text ;=)

it's not silly it is a mistake and not all users will be able to fix that...
but all users will be able to replace the english text with armenian, or farsi or kyrillic .....

that is easy understandable, but who knows about codepages? I think if you want to have something SIMPLE do it correct, because correct = simple

the multiple download just to get another language pack . that is what I did but it is not economic....
better offer a separate download for language files only, I think

Well, it is UTF-8 as defined in the language file - i don't understand where you get <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1"> from ... ?

I don't get all the ?????s - it works fine for me in both IE and Firefox - but the copyright should be an entity ...

Peter,

sorry.
I installed the new version.
I downloaded the armenian language pack and just installed it
I got that mess
I am using Firefox. Don't tell me that IE is better with armenian codepage support ;=)

I have just one proposition:
why not deliver ALL pages in UTF-8 and set the default codepage to UTF-8 everywhere?
You started to offer non-iso-8859-1 language files!

So why not have everything in babylon-compatible UTF-8?????
